Kitesurfing is one of my favorite pastimes. The thrills associated with kitesurfing are incredible and I would recommend it to just about anyone. One of the great things about kitesurfing is that it can be done just about anywhere there is a large body of water. The most popular places for kitesurfing are of course along the coasts in places like North Carolina, Florida Keys and San Diego, CA. While the oceans provide perfect conditions for kitesurfing there are also several places in the middle of the country where kitesurfing is popular as well. If you are anywhere in the Midwest you can grab your power kite and head to one of the great lakes. With these large bodies of water there is always an onshore breeze that is just right for kitesurfing. Along with these great conditions there are less hazards associated with kitesurfing in the great lakes as opposed to the oceans. Some of these hazards include high surf and rip currents as well as sharks. While some of the great lakes can get rather choppy on a windy day on average they will be much less likely to have high surf that make kiteboarding more difficult. There are many great places in the US that offer the ability to kitesurf. The next time you are near a large body of water such as the ocean or one of the great lakes make sure to grab your power kite and hit the water. Maybe I’ll see you there! |
